Compare difference: 150 Mbps routers vs. 300 Mbps routers

What is the difference between 150 Mbps and 300 Mbps router is the most commonly asked question. Many people spend extra money for the faster router thinking that it will increase the internet speed. Unfortunately, it is completely wrong. The explanation follows.

The router speed is a mere indication of router capability of transmitting the data. It does not mean faster internet speed. The internet speed is limited by the ISP provider. More precisely the internet service provider, your selected package and FUP limit in case you have.

The faster router will help boost the speed of sharing the data in the internal network, called as LAN. Say one of your family member or friend wants to share a movie on a router. You don’t need internet for that. You can share it over the router network. So this sharing speed depends on the router speed capability 150 Mbps or 300 Mbps? 300 Mbps router can share the data twice faster than 150 Mbps router. That simple. In another perspective, we can say router speed is the speed between router and computer and not internet speed.

How you can verify the difference between 150 Mbps vs 300 Mbps speed router?

Take two routers, one is 150 Mbps and another one is 300 Mbps. Check the internet connection bandwidth. All you need to do is to visit the site and click the begin testing. You can verify that there is no difference in speed.

Sometimes when you check the router speed, in settings it shows 100 Mbps not 150 Mbps. The main reason is router speed is depends on the ethernet cable, ethernet adapter, LAN ports capability as well. The stated speed is under theoretical conditions.

Hope this help.
