A transceiver is a device, including a transmitter and a receiver that are combined and share common circuitry or a single housing. When no circuitry is common between transmit and receive functions, the device is a transmitter-receiver. The device originated in the early 1920s. There are similar devices, such as transponders, transverters, and repeaters.
The Cisco Transceiver Modules, supporting Ethernet, Sonet/SDH and Fibre Channel applications across all Cisco switching and routing platforms, provide a convenient and cost effective solution for the adoption in data center, campus, metropolitan area access and ring networks, and storage area networks. This kind of device is an ideal set of choices in terms of speeds, protocols, reaches and supported transmission media.
Cisco Transceiver Modules provide various models. Here we only introduce the Cisco 100 Gigabit, 40 Gigabit, 25 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Modules.
Cisco 100 Gigabit Modules
The 100 Gigabit Ethernet was officially standardized in July 2010 under IEEE 802.3ba, in order to meet ever growing bandwidth requirements of service provider and data center networks. For this demand, Cisco's Transceiver Module Group now delivers industry-leading, standards-compliant, 100 Gigabit pluggable transceiver modules.
Cisco Multisource Agreement (MSA)-compliant, CFP modules help to provide connectivity options within the service provider core networks, and from service provider networks to large data centers.
Cisco 40 Gigabit Modules
Cisco designs 40 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces to meet the high-performance connectivity requirements of campus, data center, and cloud deployments. The latest innovation, the QSFP BiDi 40 GE transceiver, helps migrate from 10 to 40 Gigabit Ethernet on the same fiber infrastructure, saving customers’ money.
Cisco 25 Gigabit Modules
The Cisco 25GBASE SFP28 (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) portfolio offers us a wide variety of high-density and low-power 25 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity options for data center and high-performance computing networks applications. The 25G Modules are based on SFP28 form factor.
Cisco 10 Gigabit Modules
Cisco 10 Gigabit Modules offer a broad range of Industry compliant Xenpak, X2 and XFP modules.
The Xenpaks are supported on Cisco routers and some Catalyst switches. The X2s are supported on the Cisco Catalyst Switches. The XFPs are supported on Cisco routers with Shared Port Adapter (SPA). They provide customers a dual-rate interface for 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Packet-over-SONET/SDH (POS) connectivity.
Cisco Transceiver Modules also provide Cisco CWDM Transceiver Modules, Cisco DWDM Transceiver Modules, Cisco Fast Ethernet SFP Modules, Cisco Gigabit Ethernet GBIC/SFP Modules and Cisco SONET/SDH SFP Modules. You can learn more in below website.
