Where to Place Your Home Security Camera?

Security cameras are an excellent way to increase your sense of security because they provide you with additional eyes on your property at all times.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach for security camera placement because your property's layout, budget, and home security goals differ from your neighbor's. However, based on the vulnerabilities in your home, this guide will assist you in considering all components of your home security system and determining which ones are definite musts.

Where To Install Security Cameras

The most significant consideration is the location of the security camera. The security camera will be ineffective if it is positioned in the wrong position. In the following article, it will be divided into two parts to explain, the inside and outside of the house.

Exterior

  1. Ground-floor doors and windows

You might think that burglars only enter through side doors, but according to the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, 34% of burglars enter through the front door. It's also a common target for parcel thieves. A camera installed at your front door monitors everyone who enters and exits your home, from family members and babysitters to maintenance personnel, delivery personnel, and others.

  1. Garage & Driveway

Burglars frequently target garages since they are one of the weakest entrance points. A camera positioned at your garage or driveway keeps an eye on bicycles, tools, grills, sports equipment, cars, and anyone who handles them under surveillance. The camera keeps you linked if your garage is unattached. If your garage is connected to your house, an extra layer of security keeps an eye on another prospective entryway. If you have a gate at the end of your driveway, you may wish to install a camera to detect intruders.

  1. Yard

Outdoor cameras should be installed in both your front and back yards, as these can be good hiding areas for burglars, especially if your vegetation is overgrown.

Interior

  1. Main Stairway or Hallway

Any concentrated area where criminals would have to travel through to gain access to the majority of your property, such as a hallway on the first level or a stairwell heading up, should be monitored.

  1. Common Areas

You may also want to secure up areas that you use frequently, such as your living room or kitchen.

  1. Basement

Although monitoring a basement is less important than monitoring the main floor and outside of your home, if you keep valuables below, it may be advantageous to install a security camera.

Security camera installation tips

• Before committing to the whole installation, test your equipment. Test the camera in a low-key environment to ensure it works as it should. Perform a practice run in the camera's intended location (mount it with tape, a single nail, or a similar temporary fix) to observe and analyze the stream. Is it possible for you to see everything you wish to see? Is there a strong enough Wi-Fi signal? Is there glare or something in the way of your view?

• Keep in mind that the camera will need to be cleaned or maintained regularly. Dirt or pollen buildup on the lens of outdoor cameras is very common. Don't set it up in such a way that it's tough to maintain.
