Featured Ubiquiti Enterprise Switches

For Ubiquiti exchanges, there are UniFi and EdgeSwitch. UniFi devices are all linked to the UniFi Controller web interface and mobile app, which is your primary way of monitoring and configuring your network. You cannot modify the configuration on the command line, everything has to be done through the UniFi Controller web interface.

UniFi switches are mostly layer 2 only, which means they can handle VLANs but cannot act as routers. The only L3-capable UniFi switch is the Gen 2 pro model, which supports inter-VLAN routing, static routing, etc., and can act as a DHCP server. Layer 3 switches don't make sense for most small networks, but professional models have some additional features.

UniFi switches start with the $29 5-port Flex Mini and go up to the $1,099 second-generation 48-port Pro. They also have the high-end XG series if you need 10 Gbps ports. In general, UniFi switches are well-made and cost-effective. Available in a variety of form factors, port types, and PoE counts. They are generally easy to set up and operate, but lack many of the more advanced features you see on fully command-line driven managed switches like EdgeSwitch, or what you get from enterprise vendors like Cisco or Juniper Networks.
